Paraview: Changing Lanes

We got to see Changing Lanes Tuesday night, and the review is now posted. Unmentioned is screenwriter Michael Tolkin, who also contributed to the success of this film (sorry, Michael!).

And The Oscar Went To…

I’m extrememly disapointed with the Academy. Yes, Oscar himself let me down this year, with his pick of “A Beautiful Mind“, of all things, for Best Picture. It was, ironically, one of the most boring movies I’ve watched this year (although that’s sure to change come summertime). Ah well, it was nice to see Halle and Denzel take home the little golden guy.

Introducing Paraviews

The reviews are now a bit more detailed (one paragraph, plus director/actor nods). Thanks to IMDB for the links.

Two Thumbs Up!

There are now a few really, really short film reviews on the menu to your left. It’s just a simple thumbs up/down system, but should work well until I actually start writing full-fledged reviews.

Believe Me Goes Offline

This notice has got me down today…. Believe Me has been one of my favorite spots for film reviews. In light of this, maybe I’ll do my own reviews (then again, getting me to write at all isn’t easy, much less regularly).

Indiana Jones 4?

My theory, odd as it sounds, is that a movie is good, sequels are evil, trilogies are epic, and a series is obsessive.

Then again, I’ve always wondered about Indy in Atlantis…

Online Shorts

Apparently the creators of Wallace & Gromit are planning to release a few shorts online! This is particularly fantastic news for fans of the claymation characters (like myself).

Similiarly, Pixar is showcasing its short films online, including my favorite, Geri’s Game.

Harry Potter

Just went to see the new Harry Potter movie, and you’ve really got to hand it to Chris Columbus for sticking so close to the book, yet still making a great movie. The young actors did a supurb job!

Monsters, Inc & The One

With the blockbuster flops of the summer past, this fall’s theatrical lineup looks to be really enjoyable. We’ve just gotten back from seeing Monsters, Inc, and last night’s The One, both very entertaining movies. (M.I. is most definitely a better, longer-lasting film, however — The One was merely ‘one very long fight scene’, as a friend of mine so eloquently put it.)

I’m crossing my fingers for the rest of the year, particularly for The Fellowship of the Ring.

Unimpressive

Is it just me, or did every movie this summer ooze style and imagery, and lack in the script/acting department? From Tomb Raider to Final Fantasy to even Cats & Dogs — style, but no substance.* Come on, Hollywood, forget the fancy effects and start making us think again.

*The closest thing to substance was A.I.
