Be Kind To Us Booksellers

Just as netiquette aptly describes proper behavior online, there should be a similar set of unspoken guidelines for regular, offline retail shopping, specifically bookstore environments. Unfortunately, most people don’t seem to think so.
If I were to ask some of the customers I deal with regularly, they might answer something like this:
- What, isn’t putting books back YOUR job?
- Of course I’m keeping a watch on my child — their lil’ destructive rampages so cuuute!
- It’s perfectly fine to tear the plastic from a new book, so long as there’s another wrapped book to buy once I decide I like it.
- Oh, those coffee stains will wash right out of the cover.
Bad Timing

Choosing to work three jobs at once is a questionable decision — when one of those is bookselling on the week Harry Potter’s newest is released, well… that’s just plain foolish.
But, at least I’ve got my copy. ![]()
The Beauty of Imperfection

Just finished reading George R. R. Martin and Lisa Tuttle’s Windhaven, a relaxing story written in a soft, mellow style very uncommon to other sci-fi/fantasy pieces I’ve read.
Martin is one of few authors who seems to perfectly catch the imperfections that characterize humanity. Unfortunately, his stories grow more somber and sorrowful the more his characters display real flaws — the only saving grace to our world is never visible in his.
Gah, now I’m getting somber.
Amazon Ups The Usability

A couple of weeks back I placed an order at Amazon and got discouraged at the amount of pages I had to sort through to complete the process. Today I expected the same, but lo! a new ordering system was in place that put all the information and important decisions (shipping, gift certificates, receipt) on one page. Needless to say, their new efficiency made this customer extremely happy.
High Tech Institution

“This branch features automated checking in and checking out of books. you take the books to a station (3rd picture), insert you’re card and pass the book over the sensor. The station then scans the book and demagnetizes it so that you don’t set off the alarms as you depart. Returning books is just as easy with the bin scanning the books upon return.”
If the US is so tech savvy, why can’t we get a cool library?
A Day in the Life

A writer once said that the best way to write was to remember your roots, your life, and take from that as inspiration. Today’s short story: A Day In The Life.
E-Books Online

For all you bookworms out there (like myself), this looks to be pretty cool. No more trying to search left and right for one of your favorite Stephen Lawhead books because some foolish publisher thinks he won’t make a buck off of them anymore…
Going Bananas

Okay, I’ve only read about 3 chapters of Planet of the Apes (the original book), and already it’s better than either movie. Sheesh.
Maybe one day I’ll remake the movie… mweheheheh…

Hiding Behind a Hardcover

Another day, another dollar. I’m off work for today, so now I’ve got to find something else to do… no doubt as soon as I get home you’ll find me curled up on my bed reading a book — those things are addicting. Ah well.
