Fresh Design Goodness
Posted by David | Filed under Technology
Okay, here’s the scoop: I’m working on updating Surreal Studios with a new look/style, and Talkabout’s design is the first to change. Obviously there’s some basic layout and usability issues which I’ll be fixing as the site moves along. One of the big changes is the switch to an almost entirely CSS-based design. The exception is tables, as CSS doesn’t always generate layout perfectly.
Also, this page (and Surreal Studios) is now HTML 4.01 compliant, in an attempt to slowly move towards a full XHTML-compliant site. And then we’ll try XML
I’ll also try to get some more interactive features (like comments, polls, etc) up here when I can find/implement them. If you’ve any questions or comments, let me know!

Trouble with Posting

I don’t know why, but my posts aren’t showing up on Talkabout. Very annoying. Makes you wonder whether you’re actually reading the most recent post, or an old one weeks old… hm…
Megway

With all the hype that the newly revealed Segway HT is getting, it wasn’t long before rival companies began trying to make similiar products.
Netscape Sues Microsoft
Posted by David | Filed under Technology
This has got to stop. In the ever-controversial browser war, Netscape was doing their best when they were providing us, the consumers, with better software than Microsoft or other companies; and yet they stopped going for the competitive technology/usability, instead choosing to fight their battles in court.
Well frankly, no wonder their browser isn’t being used as often — MSIE simply got better, in terms of web standards and usability, while Netscape spent all its time and money preparing legal arguments. Until the release of Netscape 6, MSIE was the obvious choice for standards support. It’s even a bit ironic that Netscape had to skip to version 6.0 to catch up with MSIE’s releases. Stop complaining and start making a product that people actually want to download.
Online Shorts

Apparently the creators of Wallace & Gromit are planning to release a few shorts online! This is particularly fantastic news for fans of the claymation characters (like myself).
Similiarly, Pixar is showcasing its short films online, including my favorite, Geri’s Game.

And what was the result of all that long, toilsome, emotionally taxing, physically draining, stress-causing work? Find Out.
All of you independent filmmakers, go submit your work.
Crash N’ Burn
Posted by David | Filed under Technology
“Well, considering your last timesheet was on the harddrive that just crashed, we need you to estimate what work you did.”
Oh joy.
Although honestly, it was my own fault; I never backed up the drive. But how do you backup the biggest drive that you have?
And So It Begins…

It’s never a good sign when your first post to a website is accidentally deleted. You just know an evil white bunny is running around somewhere…
By the way, Hiya, welcome to Talkabout.
